NIHR’s Chairperson receives the Director of Legal and Policy Affairs at the Asia Pacific Forum (APF)

Engineer Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of NIHR, convened a meeting with Mr. Philip Wardle, Director of Legal and Policy Affairs at the Asia Pacific Forum (APF), alongside several members of the Commissioners and the Secretary-General at the institution’s headquarters in the Seef District.

Al-Derazi warmly welcomed Mr. Wardle, commending the fruitful and enduring collaboration between NIHR and the Asia-Pacific Forum, which has been ongoing since the institution’s inception. The meeting encompassed discussions on enhancing cooperation between the two entities to advance shared objectives in promoting and safeguarding human rights. Topics included the Forum's initiatives to bolster national human rights institutions, deliver technical assistance programs, and enhance the skills of their staff, as well as the resources and support available to these institutions.

Mr. Wardle delivered a visual presentation offering an overview of the Asia-Pacific Forum, highlighting its role as a regional network dedicated to supporting national human rights institutions across this geographical area.

He underscored that the Forum is one of four regional networks constituting the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, alongside those in Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Additionally, he outlined the Forum's contributions in assisting national human rights institutions with accreditation processes and providing guidance to member states.

 

The meeting facilitated an exchange of perspectives on optimal approaches to bolstering national human rights institutions and the available mechanisms for the institution to fulfill its mandate of advancing human rights protection and promotion in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
