Chairperson of the NIHR meets Roman MP, Member of the European Parliament

06 Jul 2017

Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, met the Roman MP, Mr. Doro Frunzulika, member of the European Parliament, at his office in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

MP Frunzulika welcomed the Chairperson of the NIHR and praised the development of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Romania.  He said that during his recent visit to Bahrain, he had the honor to meet with the King of Bahrain and a number of officials in the Kingdom, stressing the importance of strengthening the Gulf-European relations and working towards the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union.

NIHR’s Chairperson thanked MP Frunzulika and explained that the discussion of the Free Trade Agreement will be through the GCC, referring to the issues that have recently taken place in the Gulf Arena that require consideration, pointing to the facts that have resulted in severing the diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar by the Kingdom of Bahrain and a number of countries, in addition to the misleading media campaign launched by the National Human Rights Committee in the State of Qatar, alleging that the severing of relations has resulted in humane violations, which is contrary to reality, stressing that the issue is purely political and has to do with security rather than human rights.

The NIHR’s Chairperson added that the supreme directives by the boycotting countries to consider the humanitarian cases for the joint families, in recognition of the brotherly people of Qatar, refute such claims as well as the allegations of human rights violations contained therein, stressing that the Qatari Committee should separate between political and security issues on the one hand and human rights issues on the other, and work to find out radical solutions instead of exaggerating matters.
