07 Jun 2017

HE Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), met with a number of Heads of Foreign Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi, NIHR Vice Chairperson, and Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadel, NIHR’s Acting Secretary-General.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE Chairperson of the NIHR praised the significant role played by the expats through their participation in the process of building and economic and social development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  He also stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between the two sides in order to provide ways and means to promote and protect the human rights of expats and domestic labor.

He pointed out that the NIHR has recently opened an office branch in “Expat Protection Center and Shelter” in Sahla, Bahrain, explaining that this office branch will be specialized in providing human rights assistance to the expats, domestic labor and their families.

For his part, Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadel said that the aim of opening NIHR’s office branch is to serve as a link between the NIHR and the residents in order to access the maximum level of human rights protection and promotion, with the belief that the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, may God protect him, has stressed the rules of the civil state as well as the principles of pluralism and respect for human rights for everybody.

For their part, the heads of Foreign Diplomatic Missions strongly thanked the NIHR for its interest in providing all means of human rights support for expats through the provision of a specialized office in this regard, which confirms the NIHR’s keenness on the protection of the rights of expats and domestic labor.
