A Delegation of the NIHR Meets with Director of the Office of National Institutions and Local Mechanisms

National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s delegation participating in the 27th session of the Universal Periodic Review of Bahrain, under the chairpersonship of HE Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, Chairperson of the NIHR, held a meeting with Mr. Vladlen Stefanov, Director of the Office of National Institutions, Regional Mechanisms and Civil Society Institutions at Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the sidelines of the delegation’s current visit to Geneva.

At the beginning of the meeting, NIHR’s Chairperson briefed the attendees on the Royal Order to form the members of the Council of Commissioners, and the subsequent elections held during the procedural meeting of the Board, upon which the NIHR’s Chairperson and Vice Chairperson  were elected for 4 years, in addition to the modifications made to the NIHR’s Establishment Law, to comply with the feedback of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SAC) of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).  He also referred to the importance of activating the training programs provided by the National Human Rights Institutions Office of the High Commissioners, either to members of the Council of Commissioners or staff of the NIHR’s General Secretariat.

Mr. Stefanov congratulated the NIHR’s Chairperson, his Vice Chairperson and members of the Council of Commissioners for being appointed in the new formation and stressed that the Office aims to provide support to the national human rights institutions especially in the implementation of the feedback of the SAC.

The meeting was attended by Mrs. Afarin Shahzadeh, Human Rights Officer at Office of the National Human Rights Institutions of the High Commissioner, Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi, NIHR’s Vice Chairperson, Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadel, NIHR’s Acting Secretary General and Chancellor Mr. Yasser Shahin, NIHR’s Assistant Secretary General.
