National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Participates in a Workshop on Combating Human Trafficking

A National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) delegation comprising Member of the Council of Commissioners Dr. Jameela Al-Sammak and Director of Training and Education Mr. Ali Al-Bahar participated in the regional training workshop organized by the South-West Asia and the Arab Region United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Center in cooperation with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) in Jordan under the title of “The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Combating Human Trafficking” held on 6-7 September 2016 in Amman, the capital of Jordan.

Over two days, the workshop addressed the obligations of the states under the International Human Rights Law to combat human trafficking and protect victims and those affected by human trafficking.  The workshop further discussed legal, strategic, administrative, institutional and regulatory measures to harmonize the national anti-trafficking laws with international principles and standards, determine gaps and priorities of reform and enhance participants’ knowledge on relevant international and regional frameworks on anti-trafficking and human rights-based approach.

The workshop further discussed ways to strengthen the exchange of information and the best practices, roles, responsibilities and potentials, especially at times of transformation and reform, as well as cooperation and partnership with government and civil society institutions.
