08 May 2024

A delegation from the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), headed by Eng. Ali Ahmad Alderazi, and members Mr. Ahmed Al-Saloum and Mrs. Rawdha Al-Aradi, participated in the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

During the meeting, the 2023 resolutions of the General Assembly were ratified, and several new national institutions were officially recognized as members of the Alliance’s bureau. The gathering also featured a recap of the Alliance’s accomplishments over the previous year and detailed the work of its four regional networks. Furthermore, the financial report for the Alliance was approved, which included the audit of the final accounts and the introduction of the proposed budget for 2024, as well as the endorsement of the agenda for the upcoming year.

The conference wrapped up with a discussion on the experiences of national human rights institutions within the framework of the Global Refugee Forum, focusing on the mechanisms for protecting and promoting the rights of displaced and stateless individuals.

With more than 100 national institutions from various regional networks—including the Asia-Pacific Forum, the African Network, the European Network, and the Americas Network—in attendance, this annual event served as a significant platform for the exchange of expertise and information globally.
