NIHR Conducts a Field Visit to Muharraq Social Care Center
The Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) conducted a field visit to the Muharraq Social Care Center as part of its oversight mandate aimed at monitoring the conditions of social care facilities, assessing the level of services provided to the elderly, and ensuring their compliance with relevant national and international human rights standards.
During the visit, members of the Committee met with the Center’s management and a number of its staff members, where they reviewed the approved operational mechanisms, the challenges facing the Center, and the efforts undertaken to provide an integrated care environment that meets the needs of the elderly and preserves their human dignity. The visit also included an inspection tour of the Center’s various facilities, during which the Committee reviewed the nature of the social, health, and recreational services provided, in addition to the daily programs and activities designated for elderly residents.
In the same context, the Committee met with a number of elderly residents of both genders, reviewed their living conditions, and listened to their views and observations regarding the level of services provided. These observations were documented in preparation for formulating appropriate recommendations and submitting them to the competent authorities.
