The Arab National Human Rights Institutions established the Arab Network at their seventh meeting in Nouakchott on April 27-28, 2011, with the aim of promoting, developing, protecting, and respecting human rights. Doha was chosen as its headquarters.

The Network consists of three bodies:

  • The General Assembly
  • The Executive Committee
  • The General Secretariat.

The Network's General Assembly is its supreme authority. It comprises all member national institutions and holds its regular meeting annually. The Network's presidency rotates periodically among the full member institutions and between the four geographical regions of the Arab world.

The Arab Network spans the Asian and African continents and includes Arab national institutions from both continents.
