NIHR opens the 1st Event of “My Rights 2”

Within the first series of the events of “My Rights 2” program, launched last week during a ceremony hosted by the Judicial and Legal Studies Institute, in the presence of representatives of a number of government entities and civil society organizations, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), based upon its strategic role in spreading the culture of human rights among different groups of society according to national and international standards, organized an awareness lecture on “the Role of the NIHR in the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights”, presented by Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi, Vice-Chairperson of the NIHR.

The lecture dealt with a number of themes, notably a historical overview on the national human rights institutions and their position in the State system, the role of national institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights, the Paris Principles and the accreditation system and the NIHR in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For his part, Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadel, Secretary-General of the NIHR, stated that “My Rights” program comes for the second year in a row for its importance in creating national cadres of public service employees who enjoy constitutional and legal competence and knowledge by developing and enhancing their skills in the constitutional, legal and human rights areas in general and their rights and duties in particular, due to the importance of public sector employees in various government and official institutions and bodies.

“My Rights 2” program, organized by the NIHR in partnership with the Supreme Council for Women, Bahrain Institute for Political Development and Judicial and Legal Studies Institute from April to December 2018, targets employees of government institutions and members of civil society organizations.  It consists of 5 packages, i.e. the National Institutions in Bahrain, the Culture of Citizenship, Human Rights Culture, Rights and Freedoms and Constitutional and Human Rights Skills.
