NIHR organizes a Lecture on Penal Code and Alternative Sentencing for National Intelligence Agency Staff

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) organized an introductory lecture on the Penal Code and Alternative Sentencing for staff of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) by videoconference, in line with the measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to combat the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) by avoiding overcrowding and considering social distancing.

The lecture, presented by Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR, dealt with an overview of the Penal Code and Alternative Sentencing, where the judge may replace original sentencing with an alternative one, as well as the cases in which the judge may substitute with an alternative sentencing, the mechanism for calculating alternative sentence duration and the controls for the implementation thereof, and reviewed alternative sentencing in international instruments.

This event is part of remote training program for NIA staff, which contributes to strengthening the concept of human rights and raising awareness of national, regional and international human rights mechanisms in accordance with the principles and purposes provided for in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as international and regional human rights instruments.
