NIHR took part in an online seminar entitled "Respecting and Supporting the Rights of Individuals with Autism: From the Perspective of National Human Rights Institutions," organized by the Omani Committee for Human Rights in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF), coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day.

During the workshop, Dr. Fawzia Saeed Al-Saleh, a member of the Council of Commissioners and the Head of the Rights and Freedoms Committee at NIHR, underscored the importance of contributing to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism across all domains. This involves enabling them to lead fulfilling lives as integral members of society by ensuring equal opportunities and active participation.

Al-Saleh also examined the key national legislation in the Kingdom of Bahrain related to safeguarding and improving the rights of persons with disabilities. She reaffirmed Bahrain's dedication to caring for and rehabilitating the rights of persons with disabilities overall, with a specific focus on those with autism. All Bahraini institutions and entities strive to deliver optimal services for this demographic.

In conclusion, Al-Saleh reiterated NIHR's ongoing monitoring of the Kingdom of Bahrain's adherence to international conventions and treaties aimed at enhancing and safeguarding the rights of individuals with autism. The Institution remains committed to collaborating with relevant stakeholders at local, regional, and international levels to raise awareness about autism and provide support to affected individuals, ensuring the full exercise of their rights without discrimination.

This participation is part of the collaborative framework between NIHR and National Human Rights Institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, United Nations bodies, and mechanisms dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the rights of individuals with autism. It aligns with the Institution's strategy and action plan to uphold human rights principles for all segments of society without exception.
