Subcommittee for Documenting Violations Resulting from the Iranian Aggression against the Kingdom of Bahrain
Introduction
Following the Iranian aggression against the Kingdom of Bahrain on 28 February 2026, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) established a special committee to document the Iranian violations committed against the Kingdom.
The subcommittee shall undertake, within the framework of the Institution’s mandate and jurisdiction, the following tasks:
- Monitoring and documenting violations resulting from the Iranian aggression that affect human rights and fundamental freedoms, including material and psychological harm suffered by individuals, in accordance with a rigorous methodology based on internationally recognized standards for documentation and verification.
- Preparing comprehensive statements and reports that present documented facts and provide legal analysis regarding the compatibility of such violations with the provisions of international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
- Monitoring and documenting the media discourse and digital content that incite hatred or justify violations, and taking the necessary measures in accordance with applicable national legislation.
- Monitoring violations committed against individuals’ fundamental rights, including the right to personal security, health, education, employment, and freedom of movement.
- Proposing and organizing specialized training activities and programmes aimed at strengthening national capacities in the areas of monitoring, documentation, and handling violations, in line with international best practices.
- Contributing to the development of the Institution’s media policy relevant to the work of the committee, in a manner that ensures consistency of the institutional discourse with the principles of neutrality, accuracy, and professionalism.
